Why I got involved
with the East Tennessee Progressive Network
"
I attended the Peace Rally… and realized when I got there that
although I was among like-minded individuals, I really didn't know who
many were. I knew the names of a few. But I only really knew
about four people there. Yet there were at least 100 people there who
share my desire for Peace.We
should take some time to build a progressive community. A real community
where we know each other not just through what organizations we are
affiliated with, or what we do in the community, but instead we know
who the person is…I
had the privilege of meeting with a small group of local progressives
for discussion and community building. Although I knew some of the group
members before, there were five individuals I had yet to have the opportunity
to meet. The simple act of meeting new people and dialoging
with them on many issues, political as well as personal, was enriching."

"I am more excited about the East Tennessee Progressive
Network than I am about any of the individual groups involved. These groups
are doing wonderful things, but by creating a larger community, a community
capable of sharing resources, their discrete efforts will be amplified.
This network will prove to be a powerful
tool."
